As the vice president of human resources for Comcast, Jane Perdue was a successful businesswoman who had it all: the corner office, a high salary and a company car.
But when she asked herself if her work was fulfilling what she believed her purpose in life was, she realized she needed to be involved with the arts, help women and become a life coach.
So in 2007, she left her job in corporate America and started her own jewelry business called Peachbutt Design Studio.
The necklaces and earrings that she creates range from funky, loud, bold expressive pieces to clean and simple works of art.
Perdue has an organic process when it comes to designing and creating her jewelry. She use unsymmetrical bead patterns and clasps as beautiful as pendants. She supports tribal women in Kenya by purchasing beads that provide them with a source of income. Other materials include semi-precious gemstones, pearls, sterling silver and artisan lamp work glass beads.
Perdue says, "(creating jewelry) is a very visual and tactile thing, laying out the beads and playing with the colors, the symmetry and shape of the beads just come together."
Each piece is an original, one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece of jewelry. Perdue is relatively new to the Charleston area and is hoping to have her jewelry in local galleries.
